PLAYERS RATINGS: Malmo 1-2 Chelsea

A shaky match for Chelsea, where the Blues were able to win the match, but with a risky result that could affect Chelsea’s match against Manchester United where some key players may be rested for next Thursday’s match.

Chelsea scored the first goal on the 30th minutes by Ross Barkley with an assist by Pedro, and the second goal came in the second half by Oliver Giroud and assist by Willian.

However, Malmo’s player, Christensen scored froma counter attack with poor positioning and coverage from Chelsea’s defenders to make the result 1-2 and boost Malmo’s hopes to qualify to the next round.

Kepa: Did his best, wasn’t tested a lot today but conceded from a counter attack. 6.5/10

Azpilicueta: Was good today, compared to the previous matches. 7/10

Christensen: A good overall match, but was able to do better in Malmo’s goal. 6/10

Luiz: A good over all match, especially in the aerial balls, but was slow in Malmo’counter-attack that led to Chelsea’s goal. His position in the midfield and losing the ball were behind the goal as well. 6/10

Palmieri: As well, a good match. Was going forward more than defending. 6.5/10

Barkley: A good match and scored an important goal and was behind the second goal. 8/10

Kovacic: An okay match, but not very effective going forward or in crosses. Was able to do better in the counter-attack as well that led to a goal. 6.5/10

Jorginho: Was behind the second goal. But not very effective in the defense, just in the build-up and passing. 6.5/10

Willian: Was helping in the defense, and made an assist. 7.5/10

Pedro: An early assist and helping in the defense as well. 7.5/10

Giroud: Not the counter-attack striker, but scored an important goal to secure the win. 8/10

 

Subs

Hazard: Forced Malmo to defend instead of trying to score. 5/10

Kante: Brought some stability to the midfield. 5/10

Calum Hudson-Odoi: Nothing much to do. 5/10

 

Marucio Sarri (manager): A good match in general while playing with some reserve players. The match against Man United and next Thursday will be decisive in his future at the Stamford Bridge. 3/10

Man of the match: It’s hard to choose, but Barkley was the best. He scored a goal and was behind the counter attack that led to Chelsea’s second goal by Oliver Giroud.
